If search engine techniques are not incorporated into the overall design of the site, then the site will fail in the search engines.  Search engines are so targeted in their search algorythms, that if search engine optimization is not a part of the overall design of the site, then there is no way to achieve top ranking, outside of luck.  I cannot state this enough.  This is a common mistake that I see among designers.  That's one reason "Cool" websites don't cut it these days. 

No major search engine ranks on "cool".  This goes back to the previous discussion about information - that is what the web is all about!  It ain't about "cool"! 

That's why we offer an Integrated approach to website design.  The design should provide easy access to the information, and the information should contain words that provide the search engines a way to bring the searcher to your site.  In fact, all aspects of your design, graphics, titles, descriptions, headlines, links, coding, should be working together to get your site ranked as high as possible in the search engines.
